Lunch Hours

I am very blessed to be able to go home for lunch, I live maybe 1 mile from work. So of course I go home for lunch, my lunch hour normally goes something like this. Empty dish washer, make lunch, check email, pay bills. It's anything but relaxing. I have decided to start taking my lunch to work and sit in my car and read the Bible. My work is on a hill and you can see miles and miles on a clear day it is the most beautiful view. Something about reading my Bible while looking out at our Lords creations is so fulfilling for me and helps reduce my stress level. How do you spend your lunch hour? Is this the time you like to read your Bible?

Please stop by Spiritual Sunday to read some wonderful blogs. It's such a blessing to read this blogs.

I think a lunch hour reading the Bible and enjoying his creations is wonderful. It is so much healthier than your alternative.

I spent my lunch time during my working years with behavior disordered children...no relaxing there! (grin)
Have a great week-end, Annette

Hi Ginger, You are very wise to change your lunchtime habits.
I used to always eat lunch in my office at my desk. But, I was constantly reminded of the work I had left to do, and was frequently interupted. So, lately I've gone to the break room. Its not the most relaxing but since I take the bus to work... I don't have a car to escape to. Once the weather improves I think I'll go for a walk. I feel so close to God in the outdoors. Oh, and I can so relate to Annette. I used to be a Special Ed Life Skills teacher... I had to work through my lunch, too. God bless her.

As a stay at home mom, I don't get much of a lunch break. My 'rest' usually comes at nap time, but I also usually spend it catching up on emails, bills, dishes etc. Your post inspired me to take it a little easier. I do my quiet time first thing in the morning, but a second quiet time certainly wouldn't hurt either!
I hope you enjoy your lunches now!

Before Charlotte and I were married I would walk out of the church study and into the house provided by the church on the back of the property. I ate lunch alone almost every day. Some days I had lunch with different members of the church. Either way I got out of the study and away from my bible and books for awhile. In other words--I got away from work. You on the other hand have the opportunity to get away from your work for a few minutes and into the word. That's good. At least sometime. After doing this for awhile you may be anxious to get home for a few minutes at lunch. Instead of paying bills, etc. try relaxing, meditating and not doing anything.

I can’t think of a better way to spend your lunch hour—straight with God in his world. Thanks for the inspiration!

I think it is always good to have a change of scenery. Sounds like the scenery for you is very nice. It's always good to read and study the Bible too. I think this post may encourage others to get out of their rut and do something a little different on their lunch hour.
Have a wonderful week.
Hugs & blessings,
Charlotte

Hello Ginger, God refreshes you in your lunch hour. It would be lovely to look out on the world. In a hospital you don't always get the best of view at lunch time and it is very needed for everyone.
Currently we are experiencing floods...water everywhere, its unbelievable...2/3rds of the state of Queensland and Queensland is 2 1/2 the size of your texas.
God bless you and keep you all safe in His care. Crystal

I enjoy a light lunch about 1 p.m when the 700 Club comes on when I'm home and at work I listen to the Christian radio!

I read mine at night after hubby goes to bed. When it's quiet and God's word is on mind when I shut my eyes. Have a blessed Sunday.

Lunchtime is a perfect time to read the Word. I always do my devotions before going to bed however since I don't work outside my home, I am free to pick it up any time during the day.

Blessings,
Sandi

Ginger,
That is a wonderful idea for lunch. I don't have a lunch hour at work, but I do have an unusual schedule so I have time at home on some weekdays. It is wise and lovely to take a break and just spend time with Him.

What a lovely way to spend your lunch hour, Ginger...and with a nice view too!

Ginger - I agree there is something special about reading the Word while looking at His creation.

Most of my reading is done in the evenings. Mornings are too rushed with getting ready for work, so the evenings are much more relaxed.

Blessings,
Joan

I think that sounds like a wonderful way to spend your lunch hour. I don't really have a lunch hour so to speak...and it would be way to cold here to sit in the car. But, I like the idea of setting aside a part of my afternoon to spend with the Lord.

I love to read God's word in His creation, though I do get distracted by His surrounding beauty. I remember when I would take my Bible out at lunch time and sit on a hill near work also. That was many, many years ago when I first became a Christian. I just couldn't get enough of the Lord! Maybe I need to find a hill again!
Blessings,
Janis
