A Bus Ride

Posted by Ginger~~Enchanting Cottage

I babysit two of our grandchildren every Thursday and I like to do different things with them so they can have fun. This past Thursday I decided to take the on a bus ride around our city. I have never been on a bus around town before,I never had any reason to ride the bus. It was so interesting to see  all the different people who got on the bus. I was wandering what their story was. This bus ride humbled me,and my heart went out to the people who don't have a choice between riding the bus or driving their car.

Matthew 7:1-2

“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you.

WHen my kids were small we had one car (still do) and I took my kids everywhere on the city bus! It was always an adventure! With the price of gas my three college kids ride the express bus to school each day! It is convenient as my hubby has used it for 20 years! I am glad you got an opportunity to venture out! What a treat for the grands! Anne

Ginger, This was a great idea for an outing with the grandchildren. I used to ride the city bus in Atlanta during my college years. It can be an education in itself!

I'm sure that was a great experience for your grands. I have never rode on a bus before.
When I went to teach in an inner city school for the summer I was amazed that a little special needs 2nd grader caught the city bus to come to and from school. The school buses did not run in the summer. I would have probably ended up lost myself!

I did that with my daughter one day. Gives them a new perspective. She thought it was a lark! How nice that you get to keep the grands so often.

I'll bet the boys really enjoyed the bus trip. I've ridden buses off and on at different times in my life. The ones between here and Oklahoma I don't recommend. I did that a few times when I was young.
You are very creative, and your grandkids are very blessed to have you so active in their lives.
Blessings,
Charlotte

Hi Ginger, I commute by bus every day and encounter all types of people. There are the business folks like myself, or college students-saving money and the environment. There are folks who do not own a car or have had their driver liscences revoked. Sometimes I encounter people on their way to court or fresh out of jail. There are the homeless, too, who hop a ride to get out of the weather for awhile. Always there are random riders... people traveling for any number of reasons. At times the Holy Spirit has prompted me to pray for one of them, or help in some way. The other day I felt the urge to share a muffin and piece of string cheese I had. It turns out the man was a hungry soldier on his way home. Riding public transportation is certainly an experience. I have encountered many mentally ill people, but only once did I feel my safety was threatened. In that case, the driver kicked the person off the bus. Good for you for giving your grandchildren this experience! Hope you had a nice holiday weekend.

I used to take the bus all the time when we lived in Chicago, but it has been years since I have been on one. We certainly are removed from life when we drive in a car. Your post made me remember all the people and the bus ride from long ago. We often forget what a luxury a car is to have.

I want to thank you for hosting Spiritual Sundays, I have met such wonderful people there. I go through periods where commenting is almost impossible, like now, during the growing season. This winter, I hope to be back to having a bit more time to comment,as I so appreciate what I see and read on Spiritual Sunday links. Everyone understands the need to take a blog break. I never want to feel obligated or do I want my readers to feel obligated...it's a hobby and a joy, not something to put on my "to do list". Take care, with thanks. Keep in touch.

That is one very fond memory I have of my grandmother. She used to take me on the big bus to the city and take me shopping. Those were fun times, oh so long ago, but I still remember. Thanks for sharing and for your prayers. I hope you have a wonderful week.

Blessings,
Sandi

Lovely post. I remember those days when Honey and I did not have a car. We would purchase a day ticket and ride the bus all around town. Thank you so much for bringing back those memories.

Happy week to you dear Ginger.

To see what is right and not to do it is want of courage.
