I wish I hadn;t done that and have never found one like it to replace it. We shopped Goodwill my entire childhood and every piece of clothing I owned was from there, but you wouldnt have guessed it, as my mom always made sure things were washed and pressed before we left the house. She was a very savvy homemaker and could juggle the family budget on a shoestring.
Lovely dishes, btw!Cookiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00960126164765305142noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5761103468165795612.post-18928454043367908722008-06-16T17:47:00.000-04:002008-06-16T17:47:00.000-04:00Ginger, what a lovely plate and sugar bowl. I had a hope chest too when I was a young girl.
We did not have a thrift store in the small isolated town that I grew up in but we did have little resale shops in peoples homes. My first purchase was a little table and chairs that served our family for many years before the tiny chairs finally collapsed under the weight of my growing children.
Hugs,
SueSuehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07258220992143729989noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5761103468165795612.post-73810272301365615002008-06-16T00:21:00.000-04:002008-06-16T00:21:00.000-04:00You are so funny!! Very cute and so dainty and sweet.

My first experience of thrifting was at a garage sale. I bought a piece of Torquay pottery for a quarter. I wish I still had it! We had practically nothing and I wanted to decorate....so I found Salvation Army. Then garage sales hit, back when garage sales really were that and not mini stores! I still have some of the items that I picked up for a dime or a quarter.
And I too wonder what happened to percale sheets. It is all my mother would buy. Now it is all the thread count. And I don't necessarily know if they are that much softer. I love it. I see why you were so excited. My first remembrance of going to a Goodwill was when I was probably about 8 or 9. Ruth and my Mom both loved those stores and went often. I remember getting my first bathing suit there. Till the day she died my Mom would rather shop in a thrift store than a "new" store. I guess I had enough of it when I was a kid. I much prefer new stuff now although I do like to look at dishes at thrift stores.
Hope your yard sale is a great success.
Hugs,
CharlotteCharlottehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12533075034458645148noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5761103468165795612.post-15147657830976587012008-06-14T09:47:00.000-04:002008-06-14T09:47:00.000-04:00Oh what a lovely plate.My first re-call of going i...Oh what a lovely plate.
My first re-call of going into a thrift store was when I was 19, I went to the Sally Ann (Salvation Army) thrift store to purchase things for my first apartment. I remember getting an old fashioned toaster, the kind that has the flip down sides....
